5 persons involved in drug trafficking arrested: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Jan 07 (KNO): The district police Srinagar on Tuesday said to have arrested five persons involved in drug trafficking. “In its continuing resolute operation against the drug menace in society, a Police team of Police Station M.R. Gunj, during a routine naka checking at Syed Mansoor Zaldagar stopped an auto bearing registration no. JK01H-9826. The individuals on board have been identified as Waseem Bashir Sheikh (driver) son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh & Uzma Wasim (passenger) wife of Waseem Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Hamdania Colony Bemina. During the search, a substantial quantity of narcotic substances was recovered from their possession,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). During the course of investigation led by SHO MR Ganj, it came to fore that the married couple used their rickshaw and family cover to deceive authorities while selling narcotics among the youth. Both the accused persons have been arrested, police said. In this connection, police said that a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered in PS M.R. Ganj and further investigation initiated. Moreover, on 03/01/2025, a Police team from Police Station Zadibal at a checkpoint established at Sazgaripora, arrested a drug peddler identified as Waseem Ahmad Bafanda son of Ghulam Ahmad resident of Dangerpora Mallabagh Hazratbal. During the search, officers recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substance and Rs 3,020 from his possession. Accordingly, a case under the NDPS Act was registered in PS Zadibal, police said. During further investigation, two more individuals identified as Waqar Ahmad Duloo @ Koter son of Late Mohammad Rafiq Duloo resident of Govt. Housing Colony Ellahi Bagh Srinagar and Mohammad Rafiq Pattoo son of Ali Mohammad Pattoo resident of Shah Mohalla Ahmad Nagar, were arrested along with a substantial quantity of contraband substances, police said, adding that further investigation of the aforementioned cases are going on. These actions reflect the commitment of J&K Police in tackling drug trafficking.
